Patrick Rosenthal grew up in South Central Illinois in the rural town of Mount
Olive with 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 2 cousins as members of the household. He
enlisted in the US Navy in 1982 as a Nuclear Engineering Machinist Mate. He was
stationed on a variety of Nuclear and Conventional ships and Shore Duty stations.
They included the USS Enterprise, NAVSTA Treasure Island, USS Kansas City,
Concord Naval Weapons Station, USS Mount Hood, USS Abraham Lincoln, and
retired in 2002 as a Chief Petty Officer, Master Training Specialist from the
Surface Warfare Officers School, where he was a part of a team training the
Navy’s future leaders. Military Awards and Decorations include: Navy
Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Naval Expeditionary Medal,
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Medal, Presidential Unit
Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle E Ribbon with Wreathed E, and
a variety of other medals and ribbons.
Patrick served as the Fuels Officer aboard the USS Kansas City during Desert
Shield & Desert Storm, where the KC was the logistics hub for the Persian Gulf
and all ships afloat. The USS Kansas City also played a role that same year in
Operation Restore Hope, Somalia.
Patrick retired again from a local Municipality, which earned him a PERS
retirement. He then spent 5 years as an Accredited Veteran Service Officer for the
VFW, Department of California, and is now employed full time as a Training
Specialist for the San Francisco VA Healthcare system.
Patrick became a Life Member of the VFW in 1988. Active Duty kept him from
participating as an active Post member. In 2003, Patrick transferred to the South
San Francisco Post 4103. He was elected to the Junior Vice Commander, Senior
Vice, and assumed Post Commander following health issues of the sitting
Commander. He spent 2 ½ years as the Post Commander, 7 years as the Post
Judge Advocate, and again as Post Commander from 2019 to present day. Patrick
has held District level positions, including: District 12 Service Officer, Trustee, and
is currently District 12, Junior Vice.
Patrick is a Life Member of the American Legion and the AMVETS. Patrick has 1
daughter, Ainsley, who is currently in her first year at University of California,
Berkeley School of Law. He and his wife Teresa reside in the City of South San
Francisco.
